Cancer Care & Research Fund

Cancer Care & Research Fund
Cancer poses a formidable global challenge to public health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it stands as the second leading cause of death worldwide, claiming an estimated 9.6 million lives in 2018. Beyond its grim mortality statistics, cancer emerges as a significant source of morbidity, inflicting profound physical, emotional, and social suffering upon patients and their families. Furthermore, the impact of cancer extends far beyond individual health, exerting substantial repercussions on both the economy and society as a whole. It leads to soaring healthcare costs, decreased productivity, and a diminished quality of life. Additionally, it exacerbates existing societal inequalities, disproportionately affecting individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. This distressing reality is rooted in factors such as unequal access to healthcare, substandard living conditions, and inadequate awareness of preventive measures and screening protocols. Given the profound and multifaceted nature of cancer's impact on individuals, families, and communities, it remains imperative to uphold our dedication to initiatives aimed at cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment. This involves the promotion of healthier lifestyles, the expansion of access to cancer screening and treatment services, and substantial investments in cancer research to pioneer innovative and more effective treatment modalities. We kindly request your support for this noble cause through your generous donation.

East Africa Hunger Relief Fund
Across East Africa, millions of people are facing famine. A climate-crisis-induced drought, coupled with regional and local conflict, impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, and soaring food prices tied to the war in Ukraine, is creating a dire situation. Over 20 million people across several East African nations, including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan, are at risk of starvation. According to the World Food Programme (WFP), “A record 349 million people across 79 countries are facing acute food insecurity – up from 287 million in 2021. More than 900,000 people worldwide are fighting to survive in famine-like conditions.” In 2023, there will likely be insufficient food in the system, which will push global food prices higher. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine contributes to the rise in hunger, with less wealthy countries particularly vulnerable, including those in the Horn of Africa. We have created this fund to support weak, marginalized, and at-risk groups to prevent and address hunger and malnutrition, build resilience to current and future climate-related drought and food insecurity, and focus on longer-term solutions to help them recover.
